I run a series of videos on YouTube titled KISS which stands for Keep It Simple Sylvia. I love crafting, but I find joy in keeping this amazing art form simple.
My parents were children of the Depression and WWII. Things were quite different then -- everyone grew Victory gardens and canned their bounty for the long winter months. Our country was geared for war which meant homes had to resourceful which meant recycling or repurposing everything. My parents learned how to be "crafty" with the limited items available to them.
Thus, these ideals carried over into their adult lives which in turn were past down to me and my siblings. I truly felt we wanted for nothing in our young lives, and we had everything available to youngsters to make stuff for our make-believe world all kids live in.
I had all the newspapers, twine/string, flour paste, paint and crayons I needed to make what ever struck my fancy. And I continue to use these items and recycle everyday products in my crafty world now, even with all the wonderful scrapbooking/crafty items on the market today, getting back to basics rekindles that simple joy of childhood imagination.
